Community Rest Sessions

in-person:
each wednesday IN JUNE
7-8:30pm in the leaven chapel

In these gatherings, we practice collective rest inspired by Tricia Hersey’s book Rest is Resistance.

But this is not a book club: no pre-reading and no homework!

Instead, we engage in grounding presence and movement, read and reflect on a few pages together, and close with a guided rest practice each week.

Please bring (optional):

  • Yoga mat + pillow + blanket

  • Sliding scale donation of $5-20

Rest sessions are facilitated by certified mindbody coach, recovery mentor, educator, and community organizer Stacy Carleton.

community care for activists & caregivers

You’re out there, doing the work. Making the phone calls. Writing letters. Organizing or attending rallies. Tending to your community and the land. Advocating and caring for others. Planning food drives or making meals.

Now it’s your turn. You get to tend to yourself and let yourself feel and rest.

You will:

  • Get a chance to feel and be real in community

  • Strengthen your connection to yourself, your body, and others

  • Disrupt the hustle culture of activism that inadvertently replicates oppressive behaviors while claiming to resist them

  • Practice the restful and joyful future we wish to create

Our session will include grounding somatic practices for engaging with news and responding to crisis, a song circle for joyful collective embodiment, a reading from a selected text for inspiration, reflection and sharing time for community connection, and a closing guided practice for rest and care.

We will not be focusing on specific political beliefs, actions, or discussion, but rather the relationship between our individual and collective wellbeing.

This event is held over Zoom.

Please have available:

  • A favorite beverage

  • Yoga mat + pillow + blanket (optional)

  • Optional sliding scale donation of $10-40
