Affordable Albina
Twelve homes. Twelve families. A future rooted in community.
Twelve homes. Twelve families. A future rooted in community.
Leaven Community is the nonprofit partner building 12 permanently affordable townhomes in Portland's historic Albina neighborhood, creating opportunities for families to put down roots, build stability, and participate in the future of a neighborhood shaped by generations of Black Portlanders.
Albina has long been a center of Black community, culture, and belonging in Portland. Decades of discriminatory housing policies, urban renewal, and displacement have pushed many families out of the neighborhood. Affordable Albina is one small but meaningful effort to respond to this history by creating pathways to affordable homeownership.
The Project
The home foundations at Affordable Albina Townhomes
Construction began in summer 2026, with homes expected to be completed in summer 2027.
Each of the 12 townhomes will include:
Three bedrooms and two bathrooms
Shared outdoor courtyard and green space
A target purchase price of approximately $200,000 per home
These homes are more than buildings. They represent twelve front doors, twelve kitchen tables, and twelve opportunities for families to build a future in Albina.
Building Homes and Relationships
At Leaven, we believe housing justice is about more than constructing affordable homes. It's about building relationships, strengthening communities, and challenging the systems that have made housing inaccessible.
Through our Affordable Albina Organizing Team, we're bringing neighbors, community organizations, prospective homeowners, and supporters together to build relationships and mobilize around this project.
We're especially committed to connecting with communities historically displaced from Albina, ensuring that information about these homeownership opportunities is widely shared and that the process for accessing them is transparent and equitable.
Affordable Albina Organizing Team
The Affordable Albina Organizing Team is a group of Leaven Community Stewards working to support the development of 12 permanently affordable townhomes in Portland's historic Albina neighborhood, in partnership with Leaven Land & Housing.
As construction moves toward completion in Summer 2027, our team will focus on building relationships, mobilizing community support, and connecting prospective homeowners with opportunities for affordable homeownership. We are especially committed to building relationships with communities historically displaced from Albina and ensuring that information about these homes reaches those communities.
